Eudafano Women’s Cooperative

Eudafano Women’s Cooperative is a cooperative made up of more than 2500 rural women in Northern Namibia. The cooperative (EWC) was established in 1999 with the aim to promote the economic and social interests of its member group women by providing effective services to its members according to sound business principles and the requirements of the market.

The group of Namibian Women in the North-Central Regions who have been railed with the common goal of harvesting and working on Marula Tree ‘Sclerocarya birrea’ and Kalahari Melon Seed ‘Citrullus vulgaris’ products, a goal which we have been realising since 1996.

Our name, Eudafano, is the Oshikwanyama word for ‘agreement’, symbolising our unity of purpose.

Sustainability and Rural Women Empowerment

Eudafano Women Marula Manufacturing supports the livelihoods of over 2500 women in Central-Northern Namibia. Women are organised in associations and work throughout the value chain, which includes picking fruit, processing, and packaging.

We have always strived to better the livelihoods of rural Namibian women, a sentiment that is also echoed in our name, Eudafano, which is the Oshikwanyama word for 'agreement', displaying our unity of purpose.

We aim to mobilise rural women, allowing them to continuously supply and manage natural resources for future economic benefits and mitigation of rural poverty.

Marula products have been used traditionally for centuries, and are still being used by rural people all over Southern Africa.

  • Marula oil is used by the Aawambo people of Namibia as a food oil to celebrate special occasions such as weddings. The women also use it as a moisturising lotion or mix millet grains with it to create a traditional body scrub and skin exfoliator.
  • Zulu women use marula oil to treat cracked skin on the hands, feet and lips.
  • Tsonga people use it as baby oil and moisturiser for skin.

We also manufacture marula juice (1L), and marula seed cake (10/20kg)  is available for animal feed.

The Kalahari Melon ‘Citrullus vulgaris’, also known as Tsamma (Khoekhoegowab), Karkoer (Afrikaans), Makatane (Setswana), or Wild Watermelon, is a plant native to the Kalahari Desert.

Kalahari melon seed oil is a nourishing and hydrating oil, rich in linoleic acid and Vitamin E. The oil is rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids (linoleic acid) and Vitamin E. Moreover, the oil is very dry and lightweight, which is easily absorbed into the skin.

Kalahari melon seed oil has always been used traditionally for food and cosmetic purposes, women use it on their hair and skin and San people have long relied on it as a source of nutrients, while also consuming the entire fruit for food and water.

Eudafano utilises Kalahari melon seeds in multiple ways: first the seeds are used for oil extraction, thereafter the resulting seed cakes are used as a nutritious animal feed, especially suited for livestock.

Our Kalahari melon seed oil is fair trade, guaranteed origin, plant based and not tested on animals. Contact us for more information

Kalahari melon seed cake (10/20 kg) is also available for animal feed.

Our Factory

And Extraction Processes

Our products are plant based, harvested from naturally occurring trees and plants and processed in a sustainable manner.

All our marula products are cold-pressed which means that the extraction process of the marula cosmetic oil is completely heat-free allowing the oil to retain its natural properties.

To achieve a nuttier flavour in the marula food oil, we lightly roast the marula kernels before cold-pressing.

Our Kalahari melon seed oil is hot-pressed to effectively extract oil from the very hard Kalahari melon seeds.

Our products are fully natural and free from additives.
